What is Massage?

Massage is a hands on therapeutic technique which uses soft tissue manipulation to decrease tightness and move lactic acid build up out of the muscles.  These movements stimulate the circulatory system, immune system, and nervous system, all to function in a more efficient, balanced, and self healing way. Massage has both physiological and psychological effects that counteract the toll of everyday stress on the body. Research appears to show that massage regulates various neurohormones by stimulating or inhibiting either the sympathetic or parasympathetic nervous system, all depending on what the body’s immediate needs are in order to create balance within one’s own body. Massage helps to stimulate the body’s own homeostasis mechanism to create a healthier and more balanced you.
